Preschool Classrooms

This play-based program is aligned with the Arizona Department of Education Early Learning Standards, with a focus on critical thinking skills and social/emotional development. Thematic units are explored by students using a variety of learning styles and modalities, which in turn, ignites curiosity and encourages sustained attention. The program is supplemented using Fundations and Creative Curriculum intentional learning materials. Typically developing peers and those with special needs work together and grow in one inclusive environment. Instruction is individualized based upon ongoing progress monitoring (Teaching Strategies GOLD) so the teacher knows what a child knows and what they are ready to learn next. GOLD is an authentic, ongoing observational system for assessing children from birth through Kindergarten. It helps teachers observe children in the context of everyday experiences, which is an effective way to learn what they know and can do. Those typically developing peers will have tuition due each month which is ($250) due the first of the month. There are a limited number of scholarships available as well as DES funding.

Preschool Startup

Lil’ Longhorns offers free screenings for any speech or special education concerns by request once a month for children between the ages of 2 years 9 months and 5 years old that are not yet eligible for kindergarten.

Children that receive a referral after the screening will be scheduled for further evaluation. These evaluations are to determine preschool eligibility.

Children that do not receive a referral are eligible to be a tuition based student in the all-inclusive preschool program.

Comprehensive Developmental Assessments are conducted to determine Preschool eligibility, present levels of performance and to assist in placement decisions made by the Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team.

The evaluation team consists of state and/or nationally certified caring professionals. One or more of the following team members may evaluate your child:

  • School Psychologist
  • Speech-Language Pathologist
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Physical Therapist
  • Audiologist
  • Vision Specialist

To qualify for Special Education Preschool services, a child must exhibit a developmental delay based on the evaluations given. Categories of preschool eligibility are:

  • Preschool Speech Language Impairment
  • Developmental Delay
  • Preschool Severe Delay
  • Vision Impairment
  • Hearing Impairment

If a child is found eligible to receive Special Education services and parent consents to Initial Placement into Special Education, and Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be created.
